You Can Now Play 'Stray' As Garfield And CJ From 'GTA: San Andreas' Thanks To Mods
If you have already managed to complete Stray and consider yourself the master of feline gameplay, you might just want to give the game another go, this time playing as Garfield or maybe CJ from Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, both available to players thanks to the mad men of modding.
While other modders were busy adding their own cats to the game to get them through the mysterious robot city and reunite with their family, others were exploring more unconventional routes.
Modder Chris "crubino" Rubino, for example, replaced the default ginger cat with a much lazier, Monday-hating alternative. The mod, available on Nexus Mods since Saturday, allows the player to traverse the city of robots as the classic comic character Garfield, who totally looks like he doesn't want to be there at all.
If changing one orange cat for another just doesn't strike it for you, there's more. Modder Sirgalahad172 submitted a mod that replaces the hero of Stray with … CJ from Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas.
If you're wondering what pushed Sirgalahad172 to create such a perplexing video-game mashup, the answer is simple: CJ and Big Smoke mods have been a running gag in the modding community ever since April 2019 when 3D artist Macros RC added the duo to Resident Evil 2 Remake. You can download the CatJ model on Nexus Mods if you're so inclined.
The canonic appearance of _Stray_'s nameless protagonist is based on Murtaugh, a ginger cat adopted by the founders of BlueTwelve Studio before they started development in 2015. Will you dare replace it?
PurrSA: This is Murtaugh. The IRL stray cat adopted by BlueTwelve co-founders that inspired the hero of #Stray. He must be protected at all costs. https://t.co/Df7mUkDo3H pic.twitter.com/xUa3hkgkuX

We'll be waiting for a mod to replace the cat with Thomas the Tank Engine with great interest.
