Some fans of the Hololive VTuber Rushia are in a purportedly violent state after coming to suspect that the fictional 3D anime streamer might have a boyfriend.

During a February stream recently, YouTuber and singer mafumafu messaged Rushia on stream stating he was "heading home, roommate-chan." This led fans to jump to the conclusion that Rushia and mafumafu were romantically involved, and the conclusion resulted in some viewers harassing both Rushia and mafumafu online.

The rumor led to some extreme reactions, as some of her followers posted about how incredibly hurt they were at the thought the real person behind Rushia might have a relationship with another human being. Some users suggested violence and doxxing, though it's unclear if they meant their tweets in jest or not.

Following the drama and harassment, mamafufu denied the allegations in a tweet, saying the pair were just friends and did not live together.

In a deleted post, Rushia is reported to have said, "I can’t eat, I can’t sleep, I have trouble walking, there are so many terrible falsehoods that I want to die right now." She later posted again, saying, "I’m sorry I couldn’t send out a message sooner… I’m so sorry for causing you all so much worry and trouble. Once I’ve calmed down physically and mentally, I’ll send out a proper message. Sorry."

Cover Corp, the company managing Rushia, wrote in a statement, "We, as Cover, do not interfere with our talents' private lives." It also stated it will take action against "slander and defamation" that has been directed towards Rushia, stating that she and other Hololive talents "have suffered harsh emotional stress."

"There has been an outburst of misleading information to third parties, as well as a leakage of information including those of fellow business correspondents," the company wrote. "[We ask the public to] refrain from further misinformation and harassment."

The stalkers calling themselves fans are cordially invited to engage in self-fornication.

This is exactly what happens when you deliberately cultivate your GFE status, cashing in on lonely simps, and then virtually cuck them.

I'm not saying that I agree with the simps, or that I care at all (I'm not into VTubers, or even streamers in general), but that the situation is completely predictable and the grounds for such toxic reaction were seeded and tended to by her own self.

Honestly, it looks to me like she was intentionally fostering these parasocial relationships, while hiding her relationship status. I know there's a lot of creators that suddenly get big and don't know how to deal with parasocial fans, but the last thing you should ever do is encourage them. Especially if you're dealing with simps and incels as deranged as this.

The entire industry is. It's part of why I believe it should be treated similarly to gambling or alcohol.

Socially unacceptable to consume in more than small amounts on occasion, and legally some oversight to prevent abuse.

"Streamers should be regulated because their fans can't tell the difference between fantasy and reality" in short? People have tried that logic with video games and movies before, if I recall correctly.

Haha, I thought this only happened with Japanese idols.

The simps thinking THEY have a shot with the girl or wants to pretend she's all theirs.

WHEN THE
WHEN THE RELATIONSHIP IS PARASOCIAL 😳

No, but seriously though, can this whole "idol culture" bullshit stop? This is the kind of mentality that's going to just get someone hurt for real at some point.

"This is the kind of mentality that's going to just get someone hurt for real at some point."
uhh… should I tell you that idols being knifed or even killed is pretty common in japan ?
it's probably the country with the most cases of celebrities being attacked by psychopaths.

Not to mention all the underage girls being pushed into that sleazy industry.

Normally Idols in Japan's predatory industry would get fired for that…

But the Hololive CEO basically just said "touch grass". (Well officially he said "IDGAF what our members do in their free time")

Japan's predatory idol industry should be fucking banned and its heads jailed.

I will never understand idol culture or simping for a VTuber. Parasocial relationships are a plague among live streamers.
