If you've recently purchased an Xbox Series X and have been alarmed by some recent viral videos of the console seeming to spontaneously combust, have no fear: they're fake and very easy to replicate.

A recent trend of videos has shown the Xbox Series X apparently smoking from overheating or some other hardware issue, which, considering the hefty price tag of the new console, would certainly be concerning for owners and potential buyers.

However, concerned Microsoft gamers needn't worry. The videos are faked. The apparent "smoking Xbox" effect can easily be recreated by blowing vape from an e-cigarette into the bottom of the console and waiting for the vapor to rise out the vent in the top.

A video from @XboxStudio, a Spanish-speaking branch of Xbox's online marketing team, demonstrated how to achieve the effect on Twitter today (though the man in the video speaks Spanish, one assumes he's saying something to the effect of "I can't believe I have to do this.")

The idea of the "melting Xbox" is a pretty good prank (particularly if you're a Sonybro), and Twitter fired off a good share of memes before the rumor was quashed.

Just remember that this is a smokescreen over the PS5's ventilation problem right now, if you live in a hotter environment you might be having this error message right now

Launch day hardware issues aren't exactly anything new for consoles, be it from Microsoft, Sony, Nintendo, you name it. Even the Famicom had issues with its soft rubber buttons on the first models, which is why hard plastic has been the standard for so long.
