(Sony Pictures)

The first trailer for Sony Pictures' upcoming movie adaptation of Uncharted released this morning, showing several high-octane action set pieces one would expect from an Uncharted adaptation and an element one might not expect: Tom Holland as Nathan Drake.

Holland was cast in the role in 2017, but the film had generally stayed under the radar until today's trailer reveal. Mark Wahlberg has been cast as Sullivan, and Antonio Banderas seems to be the film's chief antagonist.

Though Holland has stretched into more challenging work with films like Cherry and The Devil All The Time, he is undoubtedly best known for his "aw, shucks" take on Peter Parker in the current MCU, and many felt his boyish looks didn't quite sit right with the swashbuckling image of Uncharted's protagonist, Nathan Drake.

Others were warmer to the idea of Holland as Drake, as the film appears to focus on Drake in his younger years.

We'll have to wait until the film's February 18th, 2022 release date to see if Holland pulls off Nathan Drake.

Is he unable to grow a beard?
Usually Nathan is looking pretty scruffy.

He's nearly a dead-ringer for teenage Nathan from Uncharted 3. With any luck, this takes place between that flashback and the Vita prequel.

Tbh, he'll probaby be fine playing a younger version of Nathan Drake than in the main story of the games.
