Twitter has been confronted with the memory that actor Neil Patrick Harris, a late 2000s and early 2010s golden boy of television and memes, once had a cake made in the likeness of late pop singer Amy Winehouse three months after her death for a 2011 Halloween party.

The memory was resurfaced by Twitter user Ashley Reese, who tweeted "I cannot believe how many very online people over the age of 25 are just now finding out about Neil Patrick Harris’s disgusting Amy Winehouse cake …"

For those who weren't as "online" in 2011 as they are now, this was very much a "wait, what?" situation.

Yes, in 2011, Neil Patrick Harris hosted a Halloween party that featured a "corpse Amy Winehouse" cake that was largely deemed gruesome and graphic. At the time, it was tweeted by Justin Mikita, the then-boyfriend and eventual husband of Modern Family actor Jesse Tyler Ferguson.

Justin Mitika's Tweet

Evidently, Mitika realized that the cake was in poor taste (no pun intended) shortly after posting it, as he quickly deleted the tweet. Other than a blog post from the Oh No They Didn't Livejournal, it seems not much of a stink was made about the cake at the time, but now that it's returned to public attention, publications including Buzzfeed and the Daily Dot have written articles about it. The revelation has also shaken Twitter, and a round of backlash has headed Harris' way in recent days.

Harris has yet to comment on the resurfaced cake photo, but it goes to show that the internet is truly forever.
