Twitter Reports 'Fortnite' And Google Chrome Are Doing A Collab, But Fans Know Better
A series of tweets by the official Twitter account for the video game Fortnite have recently attracted attention online because capitalized letters in each tweet spell out the word “Chrome.”
Interpretations of this apparent code vary. Twitter central, which has labeled the chatter around the topic as “trending,” seems to have decided the tweets announce some kind of a collaboration between the Google Chrome internet browser and Fortnite, and some users agree.
Others believe Twitter has made an error, because the word “chrome” can also refer to a kind of metallic finish, in addition to Google’s web browser. These posters argue that Fortnite is more likely referencing this meaning of “chrome,” especially given art teased for Season 4 of the game. It’s possible that there may be a chrome skin added to the game, or something like that.
So, it turns out that this is chrome, not oil. #FortniteSeason4 #Fortnite pic.twitter.com/AMSNtkzdrZ

Many gamers seemed to sincerely hope this was the case because many seemingly dreaded a collaboration between the game and the web browser — undoubtedly an odd choice despite its history of other odd collabs and events.
If this spells out chrome I'm gonna douse myself in flammable oil https://t.co/uY9a3LOK8E

Prominent Fortnite player Megami Mizu clarified in a tweet that Google Chrome and Fornite are not collaborating, and Twitter’s interpretation of Epic's marketing ploy was wrong.

Twitter has come under fire recently for other errors made at the corporation’s headquarters. After a scathing report by Twitter’s former Chief of Security alleging not only that spies for several foreign governments work at Twitter and have access to its most sensitive data but that the company’s servers are extremely vulnerable to attack, the company denied the allegations but offered no proof against them.
Extreme heat a few days ago also knocked a central Twitter server in California offline, threatening the entire site with an outage. Additionally, the company’s drama with Elon Musk continues to unfold.
