Twitter has been reeling since last night when Lil Wayne posted a picture with President Donald Trump.

The rapper met with the president to discuss Trump's "Platinum Plan," a program at boosting economic prosperity for black Americans. "He listened to what we had to say today and assured he will and can get it done," wrote Lil Wayne, real name Dwayne Michael Carter Jr.

This is not the first time a rapper has cozied up with the President, although Wayne did not explicitly voice support for Trump as rappers Kanye West, Lil Pump, 50 Cent, and Ice Cube have in the past. Regardless, the optics of the image disappointed many on Twitter.

The picture was also celebrated by conservatives who gloated about having the prominent rapper apparently on their side, imagining it would make various liberals spontaneously combust.

Rapper Lil Jon, in his Lil Jon way, had a very calm take on the situation.

Lil Wayne has been a multi-millionaire since he was a kid. He is "self-made" though, since he got his millions while with record label cash money millionaires. I used to listen to his original shit, "Tha block is hot", like crazy when I was a teenager. After reading this I listened to it again after 20 years and holy shit I just went back in time.

I hate Trump, but Lil Wayne is a grown man. He can support whoever he wants and people need to deal with that.

when someone like Lil Wayne, an icon in the rap industry – the same industry that, lets be honest, is heavily centered around black culture – is posing with Trump, it means Lil Wayne has become something know as an Uncle Tom.

He is not bothered by the number of racial injustices that he, as an African American, should be worried about and is SUBJECT TO by virtue of just being black, including the very concept that liking rap or being a rapper makes you a "thug". You know, the same sort of rhetoric that Trump supporters believe.

I couldn’t care less about rapper political virtue signalling.

I want to hear more about these “criminal reforms” and “Platinum Plan” this article just mentioned. It sounds like something the Repubs care less about these days.

Like the media would ever cover it if it was true.

They certainly went out of their way to avoid saying anything about the record decrease in black joblessness that had been trending the last few years before Covid hit.

Can't ever, ever let the minorities think things can actually improve for them, especially under the republicans; the spell might be broken otherwise…

I genuinely don't understand why people call Trump a racist. What did he do or say that can be considered racist towards anyone?

Wanting border security and truthfully saying that criminals are coming from the border = racist

Criticizing Kamala Harris/ Hillary Clinton = sexist

Prioritizing mentally stable and physically competent applicants for the military = transphobic

Matarael, Angel of Rain

If he does not have a brash attitude, he'd be an almost pretty perfect president.

That is the sad truth.
If we simply had a level headed eloquent speaking man like Obama, but with the exact same policies and results as Trump the social climate might calm the fuck down.

Instead we are trapped in the quagmire of this endless pseudo-religious political jihad where half the population of the US has replaced their morality with tribalism,
The only unforgivable wrongs are the actions of the "enemy",and the only "truth" is the tribe's rhetoric.

What's the fucking deal with rappers going crazy for Trump's (microscopic) dick?!

First Kayne, next Ice-T and now Lil-Wayne… as if fellating a confirmed racist donger is going to make any difference.

Maybe because he's shown actual interest and concern for black communities for a long time now, sits down and listens to what they have to say, and takes action where common ground is seen. Might also have something to do with how the Democrats have yet again shown they dont give a single shit about black lives after whole-heartedly supporting and encouraging riots, lootings and murder in black communities, because they think it helps them with their 'systemic racism' narrative. A whole lot of black people will be voting red for the first time in their life this election.

Paradoxed

If you weren't so busy 'fellating' the baseless democrat drivel of "anyone I dont agree with is racist/sexist/etc", you might be capable of seeing that.
