In a rare instance where a death threat actually reduced a ban sentence, albeit inadvertently, Twitch streamer Narcissa Wright has now had her account unbanned just days after tweeting she wanted to "shoot people at Twitch HQ."

Wright, a top speedrunner on Twitch, had her account banned two weeks ago after she opened an NSFW image on stream, thereby violating Twitch's accidental nudity policy. In response, Wright posted a series of desperate tweets, writing “the internet is hell,” “real life is hell, too” and “@twitch makes me want to DIE!!!!!” before saying she wants to kill herself and "shoot people" at Twitch.

Shortly after the ban, Wright told Dexerto the threat was not credible, as she did not own any weapons, but admitted she felt the urge to self-harm after receiving the ban.

"Shortly after the gross image was shown, I was banned (permanently) — an indefinite suspension. It felt cruel — a cruel response to me being shown a gross image," she said.

Remarkably, Wright announced yesterday that she'd had her sentence reduced from a permaban to a 22-day suspension after she appealed to Twitch.

The leniency shown by Twitch underlined the frustrations many others have had with its contentious ban policies, as many noted that lighter offenses than death threats have resulted in channel-crushing bans while other serious offenses purportedly warranted a mere slap on the wrist. Among the discussions, Dr. Disrespect's Twitch ban in 2020, which has still never been explained, resurfaced.

According to the ban and message from Twitch, Wright can resume streaming again in mid-April.

So…she's getting away with death threats while many have been permabanned over words like "simp" and other non-issue.

Do I need to point out what is the possible reason why this person was given such a huge play room for mistakes/bad takes…?

You seriously think it's hard to not click unvetted links or not stream unmoderated websites? Just some simple precautions such as don't have a public discord on stream or web browser is all you need to do. This is just like any other workplace "accident." If you take simple precautions you won't even be in a position to have the accident in the first place.

Ahh yes because… safety precautions never fail ever.

Dude, there are websites on this great world wide web specifically designed to disguises links, shock videos hidden behind innocuous thumbnails, the utter ease in which someone can steal an account and pretend to be a good friend to send you malicious code…

All things that ONE bad actor can do to make you lose your twitch account. Its not that simple, and you know it.

Besides, your point means literally nothing when dealing with KK's statement.

Even if someone did open up a shock image, why should they get banned for it? Why are the rules so unevenly enforced? Why is it that Tommy the top streamer with mods as his subs gets away with things while smaller streamers get whipped over a single infraction.

Because you made the conscious decision to open an unvetted link on a live stream. That's not an accident, that's negligence.

Sounds like she was just pissed at all these BS content restrictions corporations have

And their uneven, sometimes heavy-handed implementation, of course.
