Twitch Partner And Streamer Hasanabi Banned For Saying 'Cracker' During Livestream
Twitch streamer and partner Hasanabi, whose real name is Hasan Piker, has been banned from the platform for hate speech, shortly following the bans of two of his mods for the same act. The ban came in late on Monday night, following his use of the word "cracker" as he signed off from a stream.
The full quote from Piker reads: "Shut the fuck up [responding to someone telling him not to use "cracker"]. Stop crying about this fucking term. Recognize the person who’s calling you a fucking cracker is literally powerless. Sorry, it’s just the truth."
This was seen by many as a continuation of a controversial opinion held by Hasan in regards to the usage of the word to disparage white people. While Hasan is of the belief that the word itself is not a racial slur and is not something that disparages against them, Twitch staff, apparently, disagreed. The streamer Vaush was also banned in the same manner not long ago.
For some added context, Piker has been engaged in a debate surrounding the use of "cracker" during his Twitch streams recently. Following up to those who disagreed with his usage of the term, Hasan said, "I’ve been called 'cracker' more times than every single one of you fucking pasty little cracker bitches in my chat, okay?"
Because of Piker's content and political leanings, there were many online who celebrated his and Vaush's ban, as well as those who found it absurd. Memes and tweets were made in celebration that some semblance of pushback against "anti-white rhetoric" was happening, with the reverse mocking Twitch and the ban also being widely shared online.
Regardless of which side of the aisle they fell on, many were just out there trying to make jokes about the situation, and what it could possibly mean for the future of political discourse on Twitch as a platform or the web at large. This moment was also used to point fingers at other offending Twitch streamers who should have been kicked off the platform before Piker.
hasan gets banned for saying the word cracker but destiny can freely say the n word as a white person, enable people getting doxxed, and bombard people with hate and STILL isn’t permanently banned from the platform?? @Twitch stop protecting racists and get ur shit together

also like if enough people are using a word to describe a certain racial demographic in a derogatory way, then yes, that word becomes racist. but like hasan is white so banning him for saying that is like banning a black person for saying the n word.
Kigami
They shouldn't have banned him, because he's white so he can say "cracker" as much as he fucking wants. Nobody would ban a black guy for saying ni**a…
btw i don't know who that guy is, not defending him, just saying the ban itself is more racist…

If all these cringe streamers could spontaneously combust, all at once, together with all tiktok """""celebrities""""", nothing of value would be lost and i wouldn't care in the slightest.
Yes, you heard it right, and i'm gonna say it again.

RIP in piece you faux-commie filth.

I don't mind him being banned IF he actually used a slur, but why is he "faux"? 🤔
Revic
I'm not really deeply tapped into The Discourse™ around this guy but from what I've heard previously he bought an incredibly expensive house and is generally extremely financially well-off, which I think is the main root of this kind of sentiment. But I may be missing something.
Catboy#333
is he actually an orthodox communist in the real sense of the word though, i.e. calling for the complete public ownership of the means of production etc? Cause that would be the only way him owning an expensive house would be actually hypocritical. Or is he "communist" in the 'murican sense, i.e. anything that would be center in most other countries. I never listened to his content and only know him through memes.

Shouldn't be banning people for saying anything, just slap an 18+ label on there. They must have either decided his racism would spook advertisers or decided to sacrifice him so they could point to him when they permaban people for listening to rap music.
RemChi
On one side you've got people saying its not a slur.
On another side you've got people saying it is a slur but they don't care.
Both are racists.
Its a slur. Any word used to demean someone based on a facet of themselves is a slur.
