Trucker Freedom Convoys Head To Washington D.C., But The Internet Wonders If They Can Navigate Local Traffic
As trucker convoys protesting COVID-19 mandates and restrictions ordered by the United States government advance on Washington, D.C., locals are now mocking the protestors’ understanding of D.C. traffic online.
The truckers’ purported objective is to obstruct traffic on Washington’s famous “Beltway” road, just as a similar convoy has done in Ottawa, Canada — but Washingtonians know that I-495 (the Beltway) is already chronically congested and blocked every day with traffic.
The first convoy arrived in the D.C. area yesterday and was minimal in numbers. Led by Pennsylvania trucker Bob Bolus, the small convoy of eight vehicles (and only one truck) was late in leaving for Washington and reportedly became lost as it attempted to navigate the complex roadways of Maryland. Despite Bolus’ repeated claims that he would “choke DC like a boa constrictor,” traffic continued to flow at its usual agonizingly slow pace around the nation’s capital.
The Peoples' Convoy, which departed California yesterday and intends to arrive in D.C. in time for President Joe Biden's State of the Union address on March 1st, will likely be significantly larger. The Pentagon is expected to authorize 700 to 800 unarmed D.C. National Guard troops to deploy in advance of the truckers, as local and federal authorities brace themselves for the mass protest.

A U.S. official says the Pentagon is expected to approve the deployment of 700 to 800 unarmed National Guard troops to the nation's capital in the face of trucker convoys that are planning protests against pandemic restrictions beginning next week. https://t.co/rYjlOD48na

Expect the memes and tweets to continue rolling in as the protest picks up steam and the truckers cross the country, as we've seen with the Freedom Convoy in Canada for the last several weeks.
Prediction: DC's insane layout and traffic will defeat any convoy of yokels in trucks.Expect them to find themselves trapped in the Beltway, stuck in neighborhoods they find scary, and inexplicably always coming back to I-66 no matter what exit they choose.

As an actual DC local, good luck, Traffic is standard around here, new speed limit is 20 mph and you still go less due to traffic. Also if you land in NE/ SE and parts of NW/SW DC with this nonsense, the locals will gladly come up to you to see if you're ok, then ask you to keep it moving.

I worked in DC for about 2 years. It was way easier to just take the train to work anyway. That was my first thought when I heard about this blockade. I was like "doesn't everyone just ride the train anyway? Big deal".
