The 'Hawk Tuah Girl' Getting Fired From Her Preschool Teaching Job Is A Rumor That's Spreading Online, But Is It True?

A rumor has been spreading on social media lately that the now-famous Hawk Tuah Girl was fired from a preschool teaching job in the aftermath of her viral video. We're here to say, it's not true.

Hailey Welch, better known by her memetic nickname "Hawk Tuah Girl," won the hearts of internet users (largely men) earlier this month.

During a street interview in Nashville, Tennessee, she told the interviewer that the craziest thing a woman can do in bed is "spit on that thang."

Although lewd, the video is most likely not a firable offense — or so people thought. On Friday, the Facebook page Tippah County Tribune shared a post that went viral. It purported that the Hawk Tuah Girl was fired from a preschooling job in Tippah County, Mississippi.

Without fact-checking, people across social media started spreading the rumor. For instance, a viral TikTok post regurgitating the Facebook slop racked up more than 3 million views. A similar tweet did just as much damage if not more, racking up over 5 million views since its upload.

Many people didn't realize that Tippah County Tribune is a satirical news outlet. It's plainly stated in their Facebook bio. Plus, the name of the preschool listed in the post is "Epstein Day School." That should have been an immediate red flag.

Another telltale sign of the post's inauthenticity was that it misidentified Hailey, calling her "Hailey Wellington" and not her actual name "Hailey Welch."

Not much is known about the real Hailey Welch. Her only appearance post-virality has been in photos for a local Tennessee apparel company called Fathead Threads. She's shown signing custom hats "Hailey" with the company's owner by her side.

Welch has mostly remained out of the spotlight, which is fine. Being known as a meme is objectively strange. Regardless, as of right now, it seems that the Hawk Tuah Girl's job security is not in danger … at least as far as anyone truly knows.
