Spirit Halloween Makes It Clear: They Do Not Sell 'Gay Loser' Costumes Despite What Memes Say
A recent "victim" of online memes, Spirit Halloween has had several memes made of its iconic packaging where people are using Photoshop to create fake Halloween costumes, with several going from generic ones like "Twitter Writer" and "Union Buster" to more specific with "Utah Fashion Wife."
This, as expected of social media, led to some people not understanding the difference between a meme and a real licensed product, purportedly even taking offense to some of the memes such as "Gay Guy" that had a man with a Pride Flag draped across his shoulders.
This influx of parody memes spread so far that it's now led to Spirit Halloween having to step in and clarify that it does not sell these costumes but would be reviewing the matter more.
However, a few days later, Spirit Halloween seemingly deemed the joke to be brand-safe and allowed itself to even post one of its own to social media, poking fun at the trope that all out-of-business places quickly turn into Spirit Halloween stores with a creative costume design.
Spirit joining in on the meme led to a lot more verified brands posting other versions of the meme, helping to make Spirit one of the biggest memes of Spooktober 2022 without a doubt.

Damn I thought I'd save some money this Halloween, oh well.

I feel a little bad for them. obviously someone on the pr team isn't very internet-savy and doesn't get the memes. although I guess that makes their apologies about potentially offending others more sincere I guess, so there's a silver lining at least.
