Sound of Freedom, a somewhat controversial thriller due to its reported popularity among QAnon believers, has been at the center of various conspiracy theories, as fans of the film believe a shadowy global cabal is attempting to suppress the movie.

In addition to the recent hoax that an AMC worker was ordered to dose the sodas of moviegoers with nanobots, the most prominent conspiracy theory has been that cinemas are specifically turning off the air conditioning in theaters showing Sound of Freedom in order to make the people who already saw the film miserable.

The conspiracy was so widespread that it caused the film's studio, Angel Studios, to step in and clarify that no, AMC wasn't intentionally shutting off air conditioning units in theaters in an attempt to suppress Sound of Freedom seers.

“We understand there are rumors – predominantly in social media – that AMC theaters have made it difficult for fans to see ‘Sound of Freedom’ in local AMC theaters, and we want to make it clear these rumors are not accurate," Angel Studios’ head of theatrical distribution Brandon Purdie said in a statement yesterday.

“AMC has been an outstanding partner for Angel Studios, and in fact, as a result of the movie’s performance and consumer demand, AMC has agreed to add additional screens for ‘Sound of Freedom’ this weekend.”

For its part, AMC also strongly denied it was doing anything to suppress Sound of Freedom. CEO Adam Aron wrote on Twitter that despite the supposed conspiracy that AMC was working to suppress Sound of Freedom, the film has already been viewed at the theater chain over one million times.

If there were indeed a global cabal of shadowy elites coordinating to suppress the Jim Caviezel-starring thriller, they're not doing a particularly good job. The film grossed $18.2 million on its opening weekend, making it the second-highest-grossing movie in America.
