As Kurt Cobain once said, "punk rock should mean freedom, liking and accepting everything that you like, playing whatever you want, as sloppy as you want as long as it's good and has passion."

Such is the feeling evoked by The Linda Lindas, a Riot Grrl punk band made up of Mila, 10, Eloise, 13, Lucia, 14, and Bela, 16. The group went viral yesterday for their performance of their song "Racist, Sexist Boy" in a California library.

"A little while before we went into lockdown, a boy came up to me in my class and said that his dad told him to stay away from Chinese people," says the drummer before the performance. "After I told him that I was Chinese, he backed away from me. Eloise and I wrote this song based on that experience."

The track made some high profile fans on Twitter, including Rage Against The Machine guitarist Tom Morello.

The name of Riot Grrl legends "Bikini Kill" trended on Twitter after the video went viral, as the dummer is wearing a Bikini Kill shirt.

The group's star has been on the rise for a little while. Bikini Kill hand-picked them to open for them at one of their gigs in 2019. They've also played with Karen O of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs and Best Coast. The group also had a cameo in the Netflix film Moxie.
