This afternoon, Sega livestreamed the Sonic Central event in celebration of their mascot Sonic the Hedgehog's 30th anniversary, using the time to announce the latest projects centered around the beloved blue blur.

The event took about 15 minutes and revealed a number of new Sonic-related projects, including a remaster of 2010's Sonic Colors, titled Sonic Colors: Ultimate, one of the better-reviewed Sonic games in the past decade.

Perhaps the most exciting announcement came in the form of a 30-second teaser for a brand new game from Sonic Team. The teaser is vague, simply showing the bottom half of Sonic running through a forest before giving us a birds-eye-view of the hedgehog running in a cryptic pattern, then fading to show the year "2022."

The event was also sprinkled with a number of other Sonic projects, including an arguably strange series of crossovers with mobile game Two Point Hospital and the official Olympic Games Tokyo 2020 video game. The former sees a number of Sonic themed items and costumes added to the game, which is about building and managing a hospital. The latter adds a Sonic costume to Olympic Games Tokyo 2020, essentially allowing players to compete against their favorite Olympians as a man in a Sonic fursuit.

Among the other announcements was a new compilation game consisting of the first three games in the Sonic franchise plus Sonic CD and Sonic & Knuckles, a number of updates to mobile Sonic games (most notable, the Werehog returning to the games as a playable character), and a new playset from Jakks Pacific.
