Scumbag Steve NFT Sells For Over $57,000
Fresh off our recent interview with Blake Boston last week, his one-of-one Scumbag Steve NFT went up for auction over the weekend and concluded yesterday after a 24-hour run on the crypto art marketplace Foundation.
Yesterday, Boston’s non-fungible token sold to an anonymous bidder for the final price of 30.2008 ETH, or about $57,100.35 at the time of the sale. This crypto art, which included the original photo from the meme, adds to a long string of recent meme-oriented NFTs over the last few weeks such as Trollface and Bad Luck Brian, all of which were sold by their creators or the individuals seen in the memes themselves.
In our interview with Boston published last Friday, we asked about the upcoming NFT auction and he told us that none other than Chris Torres, creator of Nyan Cat, helped him to mint the NFT and arrange the sale.
“We reached out to Chris, asked him about it a little bit and he was just like, ‘Dude, I'm going to help you,’” Boston said. “We just talked back and forth and Chris is way smarter than I am, so he talked me through stuff and how to set it up. That was a cool opportunity.”
As part of a movement on social media lately, Torres has been assisting meme creators to sell their contributions to internet culture as part of the “#Memeconomy,” which has already helped a slew of them rack up around $300,000 in crypto art sales in the last week since it began. Additionally, Torres said he’s not taking any cut of these sales and is merely helping others to sell their own after his historic $600,000 Nyan Cat piece sold last month.
About the Scumbag Steve NFT and its final auction price, Boston tweeted, “Whoever this is, thank you. You have no idea what this meant to me and my two boys. I’m humbled and so grateful.”
