Rupert Murdoch Gets A Highly Memed Divorce And Faces A Defamation Lawsuit From Dominion Voting Machines
Media mogul Rupert Murdoch is reportedly divorcing his wife, Jerry Hall. The 91-year-old Fox News and News of the World owner is one of the richest and most influential men in the world.
The divorce comes as Fox News faces a defamation lawsuit from Dominion Systems, which accused Fox of purposefully pushing false claims about its voting machines in the wake of the 2020 Presidential election.
Many on Twitter mocked Murdoch, declaring they had no empathy for the mogul and his divorce.
Hall was previously married to Rolling Stones singer Mick Jagger, and Murdoch has had three marriages prior to this one. As the news of his divorce spread on social media, so did memes poking fun at him.
A number of posters also poked fun at Murdoch’s very-elderly appearance compared to Hall’s relative youth.
Alongside those mocking the divorce, a few were humorously excited to hear that Rupert Murdoch will be single again.
The divorce comes amid an already troubling news cycle for Murdoch. Newsmax, Murdoch’s right-wing media company, attempted to get the Dominion lawsuit rejected recently, but a Delaware judge found on Tuesday that Dominion’s claims were justified.
The lawsuit will likely force depositions from Rupert and his son Lachlan Murdoch into the conduct of Fox News and its claims about the election and voting machines. If the court finds that Newsmax purposely and knowingly made false claims about Dominion machines with the intent of causing harm, then they will be forced to pay $1.6 billion.
Dominion has several ongoing defamation lawsuits against various people who reportedly told lies about the company in the wake of the 2020 election, including Rudy Giuliani and MyPillow CEO Mike Lindell. All of these lawsuits are presently moving forward.
