Somber news hits the web as Thurston Waffles, the white Ragamuffin cat whose comedically timed meow held the internet in fits in 2019, has passed away, his human wrote on Instagram in a touching message yesterday.

On Wednesday, Thurston Waffles' owner Matt posted a sad message on the cat's social media revealing that Thurston had suddenly died aged 15 from a sinus infection caused by nasal cancer.

The cat and his owners had only recently moved into a new house, and Thurston has been "sprinting around the house like a kitten" just days ago. The cat's owner wrote that Thurston spent his last days in front of his favorite lamp, with his mom Sheli and his dad Matt making everything feel as normal as possible.

Thurston Waffles achieved internet fame in June 2019 after an Instagram video of him meowing went viral, being used in edits and de facto replacing Smudge in video versions of Woman Yelling at a Cat memes. In 2020, we interviewed Thurston's owner Matt about his internet fame and his taste for shrimps.

RIP Thurston Waffles, and thanks for all the laughs. ❤️
