'Rich Men North Of Richmond' Singer Oliver Anthony Says Diversity Is Good, Resulting In Some Of His Conservative Fanbase Turning On Him
"Everyone loves Oliver Anthony, the 'Rich Men North of Richmond' singer who triggered the libs with a song about wanting to tax the poor." [five minutes later] "We regret to inform you Oliver Anthony is woke."
In what's being described as a rare "reverse Milkshake Duck," sudden viral star Oliver Anthony has angered some of his newfound conservative fanbase by voicing his opinion that "diversity" is pretty good, actually.
In an interview with Fox News, the singer said, "We are the melting pot of the world, and that’s what makes us strong, is our diversity, and we need to learn to harness that and appreciate it, and not use it as a political tool to keep everyone separate from each other you know?”
In an instant, many fans who were drawn to Anthony because of the right-leaning politics of "Rich Men North of Richmond" (the song infamously characterized Americans on welfare as "obese" leeches taking money from hard-working Americans) turned on him. Some called him a cog in an "anti-white psyop," a "cuck" and a proponent of "white genocide."
The apparent disconnect between Anthony's politics and his music added credence to accusations he's an industry plant among some.
Anthony's real name is Chris Lunsford, and unlike the character he portrays in "Rich Men North of Richmond," he seems to be doing well for himself, living in the Richmond suburbs and working a desk job for a construction company.
Many online believe the success of "Rich Men North of Richmond" is due to the influence and money of conservative influencer Jason Howerton.
Meanwhile, those who initially rolled their eyes at Anthony (Lunsford) are getting a kick out of the sudden cancelation by his newfound fanbase after saying he liked "diversity."
Whether Anthony's newly discovered non-racism affects his success is yet to be seen. "Rich Men North of Richmond" just hit Number 1 on the Billboard Hot 100.

How does it make him a reverse milkshake duck? He's still a right wing grifter, that's still bad

He's someone that racists loved until he let a non-racist thing slip. That's the opposite of a normal milkshake duck.

Normal milkshake duck is when something gets suddenly popular for being ostensibly wholesome, and then is very quickly revealed to actually be racist or homophobic or something like that, so their popularity immediately is destroyed.
In this case, the guy got popular with the right wing for what was perceived as a Confederate-supporting song, but then turned out to not hate other races so he lost his popularity because of that. It's the opposite to how it usually works.
