Earl Simmons, better known by his stage name DMX, is on life support after suffering a heart attack in his White Plains, New York home, according to his former manager, Nakia Walker. Walker described DMX as being in a "vegetative state."

Speaking to The New York Times, Simmons' lawyer, Murray Richman, confirmed his worry for his client while praising Simmons' personality.

"He is truly an amazing person," Mr. Richman said. "He walked into a room, he lit up the room. He couldn’t help making you feel good in his presence."

As DMX, Simmons was a sizable presence in turn-of-the-millennium hip-hop with hits like "Party Up" and "X Gon' Give It To Ya," where his bravado was backed up by a distinctively deep, raspy shout. He also has had several run-ins with the law following his peak of popularity.

Prayers and well-wishes for DMX spread throughout social media after the news broke, particularly from his peers in the industry. Fans also held a prayer vigil for DMX outside the White Plains hospital where he was being treated yesterday.
