Pokémon Shows Off Gigamax Pokémon In New Ad
This morning, The Pokémon Company released their latest trailer for the upcoming Pokémon Sword and Shield games, this time focusing on the "Gigantamax" mechanic, a unique new mechanic which turns Pokémon into giant versions of themselves, complete with a unique new move.
The trailer announces some deals for Pokémon fans: Gigantamax Pikachu will be available for Pokémon Let's Go Pikachu! players, and Gigantamax Eevee for Let's Go Eevee! players. People who preorder the game will get a Gigantamax Meowth that will throw cash onto the battle arena. While the trailer showed off several other gigantic Pokémon and their gigantic moves, most people were focused on one thing: Fat Pikachu.
The original design of Pikachu was much chunkier than the version we've seen for the past two decades. As Pikachu became the icon of the franchise, it was slimmed down, perhaps in an effort to make it cuter. This has led to myriad jokes about the original Pikachu design and the character's arc through history. Now that Pikachu is "fat" again (at least in Gigantamax mode), fans on Twitter are absolutely thrilled.
I saw Fat Pikachu trending and I would like to apologize for creating this. #PokemonSwordShield pic.twitter.com/cJipn9AkKv

There's still a month until Sword and Shield comes out, and there's a strong possibility we haven't seen the last of the prerelease memes. Enjoy Fat Pikachu until the next meme inevitably drops.
