New Playstation Announced for Late 2020
Playstation fans were treated to an exciting update this morning, when Wired broke details about Sony's successor to the Playstation 4. The major news is thus:
It will be called the Playstation 5.
It's coming in time for the holiday season in 2020.
Sony Interactive Entertainment CEO Jim Ryan and system architect Mark Cerny spoke to Wired about technical aspects of the console. Major features include a sophisticated haptics controller with sensitive triggers, hardware ray tracing, and a user-interface that will allow users see in-game information before starting a game. The pair had previously spoken about their work to eliminate load times in games, and in today's interview, they spoke about how the improved hardware would allow for the creation of more assets in massive games like Red Dead Redemption 2 and Elder Scrolls. Furthermore, the system's home screen will allow players to jump into a game at any point, meaning a player won't have to go to a game's home screen to select a mode. The Playstation 5 will be backwards compatible with Playstation 4 games, and it can act as a 4k Blu-ray player.
Online, fans reacted with excitement about the specifics announced for the system.

Others felt Sony had timed their release very carefully.
PlayStation 5 will release in an election year, and likely after the election results. This is because Sony is waiting to see if Trump will be re-elected before deciding to ship a VR headset with the console to let people escape the real world.
