Pixar has found itself in a tight spot over the newest movie Lightyear that is slated to come out later in the week. Ahead of its release, the film was prematurely banned in several countries for having a lesbian kiss happen in the movie, a move that has followed recent Marvel and Star Wars trends with including these elements to their respective films.

The news of the bans quickly appeared on Twitter, where people living in each country affected were upset at the news.

Not everyone was upset at the news, however, as presumably, with a government deciding to ban something from a nation, there are some within the country that would agree with the decision. These supporting voices were quick to point their anger towards Disney itself for presumably forcing the content to be in the movie, knowing that previously it resulted in similar country-wide bans.

While many were busy trying to fight on either side, there were others focused on the meta-narrative at play with the banning, such as what it might mean for Thor: Love and Thunder, as well as making jokes about how the movie was truly deserving of the ban for various reasons.

The people throwing a shitfit over this need to realize once and for all that even if they banned homosexuality, their targets still wouldn't want to have sex with them.

Okay why is it always lesbians they're adding whenever they need LGBT representation? What's wrong with two homies passionately chewing their lips off?

Gay men aren't profitable. Lesbians are.

They'll just edit it out lol

This movie is past that point. They've made something they can't edit out this time. Which is arguably progress

Again, they're committed. They are actually putting their foot down this time.

If the Mouse sticks to their guns and just eats the bans, I'll actually give them some level of respect for them on this

Ten Shadows

If they stuck to their guns, they'd have put the representation out in the open where it can't be easily edited away.

Well, gotta start somewhere, and better late than never I suppose…

Here's a good quote from Jonathan Pie that I'm sure corporations like Disney will be wise to heed: "What’s the point of democracy and freedom from tyranny if we welcome money earned through tyranny?"

Disney doesn't care about that, only money. We'll see how long it takes until they release a censored version.

How brave of the billionaire corporation to include a meager morsel of "representation" which they can easily edit out in territories where it would be considered problematic™ content.

As long as Disney's not bending over for China's fat money-cock by taking it out, let China/ Russia/ who the fuck ever ban it as much as they want.

They can't stand it, they won't get it.

They already are, though. Ever wondered why their "representation" is always side characters on a fast shot not important to the movie..? So that they can easily cut them out to release a censored version for those countries. Meaning that those countries are already the reason why they never do anything more daring.

Money talks.

Gonna call it, Disney will release a "recut" version for these markets.

I'm just glad they aren't censoring it or otherwise yielding. No matter where an idea (such as institutionalized homophobia) is located in the world, or how old (or "traditional") it is; those factors do not give any idea special immunity from being questioned or challenged.

"I'm just glad they aren't censoring it"
they are going to censor it.

Why hasn't it happened already though? This has already happened to Disney a dozen times now? They know they would never allow the kiss, surely they would have just saved time and released it censored in the first place?
