It's playoff season and a Philadelphia team is in the hunt for a championship, which means social media will be more or less forced to consume Philly fans' uniquely zealous online fandom until their team wins it all or gets knocked out.

Currently, the Philadelphia Phillies are in the MLB playoffs and are preparing to face the Atlanta Braves in the National League Divisional Series tomorrow. In its excitement, the Braves' mascot Blooper, a sort of cream-colored Muppet thing, tweeted "One more day." In response, a Philly fan sent it a (likely unserious) death threat.

This was enough for Blooper to start "going in" on Philadelphia fans, insulting their toughness and the Phillies' mascot, the Phanatic, which is a sort of green space Muppet thing.

Philadelphia fans are notoriously protective of their culture, particularly their bizarrely monstrous mascots (see: Gritty), and they were all too ready to get into a flame war with what they perceived as Atlanta's lesser monster mascot.

Blooper has fallen victim to one of the classic blunders, which is Never Engage with Philadelphia Sports Fans Online Regarding Any Topic, and will now have to pray its team bails it out, lest it go down in history as the mascot that poked the proverbial bear. Now that would be a real blooper.

As a Braves fan, allow me to explain the sheer insanity that is Blooper.

He's basically the most savage mascot in the MLB, they gave the guy who plays him a Twitter account and he uses it to talk shit and post memes almost daily. For baseball fans, he's a gem. But Phillies fans fucking hate him. You see, Blooper bears striking resemblance to the Phillies' Phanatic. And Philadelphia fans have been livid about it ever since he was debuted, and the Blooper guy knows this and had played into it. The Braves have 2 key rivals in their division: the New York Mets and the Philadelphia Phillies, see where I'm going? Blooper throws shit at both of them EXTRA hard.

Add this onto the fact that the Phillies and Braves are about to meet in the NLDS playoff and you get the biggest spree of shit-slinging imaginable.
