It seems social media is bent on recreating the post-March 2020 meme experience as swiftly as possible. Just days after actress AnnaLynne McCord did her very best to top the cringeworthiness of Gal Gadot's "Imagine" video with a slam poem apologizing to Vladimir Putin for not being his mother, social media users are now having a Cuomosexual moment over Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

Zelenskyy has emerged as a strong leader in the eyes of the world amidst Russia's invasion of Ukraine. Last week, he shared a video from the streets of Kyiv despite Western offers to airlift him out of the country as a show of defiance against Russian aggression, despite being believed to be Russian forces' "No. 1 target."

The video propelled Zelenskyy to international stardom and online virality. The President, a former comedian (who actually voiced Paddington Bear in the Ukrainian dubs of the Paddington films), has even united American politicians behind him, with Newsweek reporting that Republican and Democratic congresspeople, as well as Fox News and CNN, have all praised Zelenskyy in the wake of his leadership. Unfortunately, it now follows that commenters are posting about their uncontrollable sexual attraction to him, leading to a wave of thirst directed at the President.

The sentiment is reminiscent of the feelings many people expressed about former New York State Governor Andrew Cuomo at the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, as his daily briefings about the situation created a sense of stability and calm for many in the most uncertain hour of 2020. The "Cuomosexual" movement was not remembered fondly for a variety of reasons, and many felt the same pangs of cringe from that era.

All that's left to do is organize a clap for Ukraine and social media will have recreated the first three months of the pandemic in record time.
