You're Never Going To Believe This, But Nintendo Fans Are Arguing About Graphics, This Time 'Mario Kart 8's DLC

The first batch of DLC for Mario Kart 8 released this morning, called the Booster Course Pass, introducing the first eight of an astounding 48 planned updated old tracks to be tacked on to the game in bunches over the next few years. The headlines of this wave include Mario Kart 64's Choco Mountain and Mario Kart Wii's Coconut Mall, while tracks from Mario Karts Tour, 7, DS and Super Circuit round out the bunch.

While some Nintendo fans are stoked to get the opportunity to play updated versions of some of their favorite old courses, others have gotten to complaining about a supposed graphical downgrade some courses received in their port to the Switch.

The major complaints appear to be lodged at various surface textures in the new DLC courses, like those on grass and sand. To some, these seem particularly flat and bland, a complaint that's been notoriously thrown at the Switch's Pokémon games. While some have been particularly riled up by the textures, others took a more nuanced approach. "For what we're paying, (the tracks are) certainly adequate. But you can't deny that these tracks don't live up to the same standard as the base game, and we're allowed to be bummed out about that," Twitter user @artsyomni wrote.

For many Mario Kart fans, 48 tracks for $25 seems like a very reasonable deal, and some took to memeing on those complaining about the graphics amid the outrage.

It seems Nintendo fans are destined to argue about Switch graphics forever. Catch you all in late 2022, when Pokémon Scarlet and Violet are set to drop, and we'll likely see this argument play out all over again.
