In what almost feels like an intentional bait-and-switch, Nintendo announced new hardware this morning, and no, it's not the Switch 2.

Instead, it's "Alarmo," a $100 alarm clock that will watch its owners sleep and then wake them up with the dulcet sounds of Super Mario, The Legend of Zelda, etc.

"Alarmo" will feature 35 various "wake-up scenes" from Nintendo games and different kinds of alarms, ranging from alarms that gradually rise in intensity to traditional alarms that you have to smack to turn off.

It will also feature "soothing sounds" to help users fall asleep at night and can only be purchased by Nintendo Switch Online subscribers.

While opinions may vary on whether this is a worthwhile purchase, the announcement struck many as humorous due to it being made at the height of "Switch 2"-watch ("watch" as in people are highly anticipating an announcement for the Nintendo Switch successor, not a wristwatch).

The apparent refusal by Nintendo to announce the Switch successor despite fan fervor may have reached comical extremes, but at least when "Switch 2" day finally arrives, one assumes that a lucky Alarmo owner will wake up that day to Shulk belting "I'm Really Feeling It!"
