Alex Trebek, the long-time host of trivia game show Jeopardy! passed away yesterday at the age of 80 after a battle with pancreatic cancer. The news was announced on the Jeopardy! Twitter account yesterday afternoon.

Trebek announced he had pancreatic cancer last year, yet continued to host Jeopardy! with aplomb while remaining transparent and good-humored about his health. In his final year hosting the show, Trebek was shown an outpouring of respect and thanks from contestants for whom Trebek did more than he probably realized.

Following news of his passing, fans of the show shared tributes to the best game show host of all time, as well as humorous clips from Jeopardy! that helped turn it into the birthplace of some of the internet's best memes.

At the time of writing, there has been no talk about who, if anyone, will step in to host Jeopardy!, but the air date of Alex's final episode has been announced: December 25th, 2020.
