The mystery of Kate Middleton's disappearance from the public eye since a January abdominal surgery (dubbed Kategate) appears to be solved, as the Princess of Wales revealed today that she has cancer and has been undergoing chemotherapy.

In a video posted to Twitter / X, Princess Kate revealed that during her January abdominal surgery, cancer was discovered. She began undergoing chemotherapy on the advice of doctors. The type of cancer was not disclosed, nor was the exact nature of the surgery.

The announcement seems to put to rest the weeks of conspiracy theories surrounding Middleton's disappearance, which ranged from her going through a secret divorce from a cheating Prince William to her getting a BBL. Perhaps in reference to the "infidelity" rumors, Middleton stated that Prince William was "a great source of comfort and reassurance" in the weeks since her diagnosis.

This was not aided by Kensington Palace's PR team, which seemed to increase confusion and fuel further speculation with every update they gave on Middleton.

Most infamously, she posted a family photo for Mother's Day in the U.K. that was killed by the press due to evidence of "digital manipulation." The following day, the Princess admitted she was responsible for the manipulation, saying she had "experimented with editing," though many online viewed this as Kensington Palace throwing her under the proverbial bus.

Yesterday, they said she was busy "working from home" on charity work.

News of Middleton's cancer immediately made those who posted frivolous, jokey theories about her absence from public life regretful.

Middleton's cancer announcement comes just weeks after it was revealed that King Charles is suffering from cancer.
