Matt Gaetz Joins Scandal Parade, As Court Documents Confirm He Brought Underage Girl To Drug Party
Yesterday's top headlines concerned the wild scandals brought to the doorstep of Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and Republican gubernatorial candidate in North Carolina Mark Robinson, but it also saw a damning development in the trafficking case of Florida Congressman Matt Gaetz.
Gaetz was the subject of a sexual misconduct investigation beginning in 2021 based on allegations that he funded the trafficking of a minor across state lines for the purpose of sexual activity.
The Department of Justice ultimately dropped the case. However, on Thursday, legal filings in Florida revealed eyewitness testimonies speaking to the validity of those allegations.
The documents state that eyewitnesses saw the minor at the center of the case at a party of Gaetz's friend Chris Dorworth. The court says the minor was naked and there were several drugs present at the gathering. At the party were the three eyewitnesses and Gaetz.
"The discovery taken in this case to date reflects that on Saturday, July 15, 2017 … Dorworth, hosted a party at his residence … with the following guests present: (1) A.B.; (2) K.M.; (3) B.G.; (4) Matt Gaetz," the document reads.
Ironically, the only reason this information has come to light is because of Dorworth. After the Department of Justice dropped the case against Gaetz, Dorworth brought forth a civil lawsuit trying to clear his name after he was tied to Gaetz's case.
Dorworth dropped the case, but attorneys filed the newly released documents in an attempt to recoup attorney fees for the baseless lawsuit.
It is unknown how the testimonies will factor into the career and potential future criminal cases against Gaetz. The House's Ethics Committee investigation into the allegations against Gaetz remains ongoing as of June 2024.
Gaetz has long been a lightning rod of controversy in Congress due to his far-right views and leadership in removing Kevin McCarthy as House Speaker. His trafficking case has also made him enemies in Congress — Oklahoma Senator Markwayne Mullin, a supporter of McCarthy, told news outlets that Gaetz bragged about "crushing ED pills" to sleep with underage girls at the time of the McCarthy ousting.
