Meta

At long last, feet exist in Meta's virtual reality platform, Horizon Worlds.

At this year's Meta Connect, Mark Zuckerberg announced that Horizon Worlds developers have solved one of the platform's most-memed issues by giving avatars legs. Prior to today's announcement, people in Horizon Worlds were legless torsos shuffling around the metaverse like ancient Miis. The announcement was made by Zuckerberg's Horizon Worlds avatar, hopping around Horizon Worlds with his newfound legs and significantly upgraded graphical fidelity.

Virtual Zuck also showcased how Horizon Worlds will let you engage with exciting features like "picking your avatar's outfit and hairstyle." It's no Street Fighter 6 character creation system but it at least seems up to par with ports of Wheel of Fortune to the Switch.

It remains to be seen if feet alone will generate hype for Horizon Worlds, especially after reports came out just last week revealing that even Meta employees weren't using it. The initial wave of online reactions seemed to indicate that legs were not enough to spark interest in Horizon Worlds.

At this point, Meta may need to push their character creation engine further if they really want to get more people on board. Just imagine someone like this guy explaining in the Metaverse that profits are down and layoffs are sadly imminent for some longtime employees:

The earliest Miis from Wii's Mii Maker and Wii Play had arms and legs. When movement became complicated and you could control your own arm, they'd take away the arms like in Wii Sports or Wii Music. The only instance of legless Miis that I know of are from Streetpass Mii Plaza on the 3ds but even their torsos stopped at the legs.
You hardly notice when a Mii didn't have arms or legs because of their unified, stylised artstyle. I understand it's hard to make legs work but I'm sure Rayman shoes would've looked fine.

You can't just have floating shirt people and expect people to take them seriously. Instead, we're left with humanoids with no life or soul.
