Lucasfilm Drops Gina Carano From 'The Mandalorian' Over Social Media Posts
Gina Carano has been dropped from the cast of The Mandalorian after the actress and former MMA fighter compared a backlash she received on social media over her views to the persecution of Jews in Nazi Germany. In the past few months, actress stirred a string of controversies with her social media activity, which included anti-mask posts and putting mocking pronouns on her Twitter bio.
On Wednesday night, Lucasfilm released a statement announcing that actress Gina Carano, who plays Cara Dune in the Disney+ hit series The Mandalorian, was no longer employed by the company, citing her "abhorrent and unacceptable" social media posts as the reason for the decision.
"Gina Carano is not currently employed by Lucasfilm and there are no plans for her to be in the future. Nevertheless, her social media posts denigrating people based on their cultural and religious identities are abhorrent and unacceptable."
The talent agency UTA also announced severing ties with the actress.
The move comes after Carano made several controversial story posts on her Instagram. In one post, Carano compared the backlash she received on social media for her views to being a Jew in Nazi Germany. Another post showed a person covered in masks, captioned "meanwhile in California" by Carano.
Following the posts, the hashtag #FireGinaCarano trended on Twitter as users recounted the history of Carano's social media activity in the recent months. This includes Carano briefly putting "boop/bop/beep" as her pronouns on Twitter in September, tweeting about election fraud in November, liking tweets denying systemic racism and making a number of several anti-mask posts.
She's transphobic, anti-mask, alt-right who parrots QAn*n conspiracies, doesn't believe in systematic racism, and now shares anti-semitic images.

But just as news of Carano being fired from 'The Mandalorian' spread, the competing hashtag #CancelDisneyPlus reached the top of Twitter trends in the United States, with some users criticizing Disney and Lucasfilm over the decision to fire the actress over her social media activity. However, the hashtag was later hijacked by those supporting the move.
I see #CancelDisneyPlus is trending over MMA fighter #GinaCarano of The Mandalorian fame being cancelledBut Disney collaborated with China’s genocidal security services in Xinjiang while filming Mulan, even thanking them in the credits! So shouldn’t Disney cancel themselves? https://t.co/gRTB3bxA9s

I just want to drop this here. It's about 9 minutes, but I highly encourage you to watch it, especially around the halfway mark.

There's a difference between you saying shit and people being like "ew! fuck off!" and the systemic slaughter of an entire minority. I don't even know how one can compare both. Talk about self victimisation…

Before the Final Solution, which started in 1941, through the 30s the Jews experienced escalating oppressions, violence, and harassment in German society. The propaganda machine dehumanized Jews as a people – and placed all the burdens and ills of German society on them. Of course ideology and ethnicity are separate and different things, from the point of view of Nazis, ethnicity was immutable. But the parallel that escalating dehumanization and ostracization of large segments of society because of something they believe has some connection. It would have been far more accurate for her to say "how communists were treated in Nazi Germany".

Lol asking trump supporters to compare themselvs to communists. You do realise that if those trump supporters were germans in the 30s and 40s they would have been the first to toss those commies in trains to dachau.
No an even better comparison is how france treated nazi sympathizer and collaborators after the war in what was called "the purge" and even then considering how terrible the occupation was collaborator's fate was nowhere near what the jews had to go through.
firngers
No comparisons to 1984? Twitter, you're slipping.

Famous people really need to start using burner accounts.

Being marginalized for your political opinions is not the same as the political violence and harassment received by Jews in the early 20th century (or the centurIES prior). It's still shit and others have already pointed out Disney's hypocrisy, but Gina's a grown-ass healthy wealthy woman who's in no real marginalized position.
Lark88
Her agency dropped her too. She is definitely marginalized.
brawnhilda
Fuck around and find out, Gina.
Iso
The money they're liable to lose over firing her far outweighs any profit they'll make over the satisfaction of a couple smug twitter cunts. Fuck Twitter.
Geigh Science
I don't really have a horse in this race since I think most disney stuff sucks
but I gotta say if Cuties didn't absolutely tank Netflix then it's gonna take a lot more than this to even make a dent in Disney's profit margin
brawnhilda
Then why did they do it?
ConspiracyNut
A dent is exactly what's being made. Disney have established themselves as slaves to Twitter whims, never-mind that Gina is probably going to sue them. Keep in mind the pandemic is already tag-teaming with Marvel and Lucasfilm's devotion to burning Disney money; they've lost BILLIONS this past year.
