Twitter User Asks Lance Reddick, The Voice Of ‘Destiny 2's’ Zavala, To Read A Meme And He Gloriously Delivers
Whether you’re a Destiny 2 player or not, you’ve probably seen Lance Reddick in a movie or TV show at one point or another, and almost undoubtedly heard his voice. Since the first Destiny game, Reddick has portrayed one of the series’ most iconic characters, lending his grizzled voice to the Vanguard commander, Zavala.
On Wednesday, Twitter user xMechanizex shared a popular Zavala meme on his account and tagged Reddick’s Twitter handle with the message, “I would absolutely love to hear @lancereddick read this whole thing from Zavala.”
The tweet got a decent amount of attention, racking up nearly 3,000 likes in less than two days. About 36 hours later, Reddick apparently took notice of the tweet and shared a special video acknowledging xMechanizex and Destiny fans, reading the full meme in all his Zavala glory.

The video of Reddick reading the meme in his home, where he’s known to record dialogue for Zavala in his closet, quickly went viral and accumulated over 390,000 views in less than a day as fans praised him for voicing the character’s dialogue in the meme.
For context, Destiny 2’s 13th season, called the “Season of the Chosen,” just kicked off on Tuesday and pits players and the remnants of humanity against the Cabal. Led by Empress Caiatl, seen in the first two frames of the meme, the dialogue is a reaction to the game’s latest trailer where Caiatl tells guardians to bend the knee or die.
Zavala is already one of the most memed characters in all of the Destiny universe, known for beloved lines like “Whether We Wanted It Or Not, We've Stepped Into War With The Cabal On Mars” that have been transformed into copypastas, but it’s pretty unique to see a major actor such as Riddick acknowledge and actually read a meme based on his character.
