Kiryu Coco, a popular VTuber with the Japanese agency Hololive, will be leaving the collective on July 1st.

On Wednesday, dragon girl VTuber Kiryu Coco held a stream, during which she unexpectedly announced that she will be "graduating" from Hololive at the start of July.

Hey guys, this Kiryu Coco. There is an important announcement from me. […] I, Kiryu Coco, I am leaving Hololive. I will continue my activities until July 1st.

During the 11-minute stream, Kiryu Coco, who appeared distraught and holding back tears, said that she could not disclose reasons why she was leaving the collective and asked not to bring the topic of her departure during the streams by other Hololive members.

The reason involves a lot of things, a lot of things I can't talk about, so you won't hear about them from me. […] Please don't ask [other Hololive members] their thoughts on my graduation when everyone is just having fun.[…] There are a lot of unfulfilled dreams that will probably stay that way, but I'm being positive!

Cover Corp, the company behind Hololive, confirmed the news of Coco's graduation in a press release.

We wish to extend our deepest apologies to all the fans and collaborators for this sudden announcement, as well as our heartfelt gratitude and thanks to everyone who supported her activities for the past two years.
We as a company are saddened by her decision to leave, but after much deliberation between both parties, we have decided to honor her wishes.

Coco, who is a 3,500-year-old anthropomorphized dragon, joined Hololive in December 2019 as part of its fourth generation of virtual YouTubers and debuted her 3D model in June 2020. Coco is known for her crude humor and pushing the boundaries of idol behavior, such as by teaching English profanities to other Hololive members during collaboration streams.

Good morning, motherf***ers!

The news of dragon girl VTuber's graduation sent "Kiryu Coco" trending on Twitter, with fans lamenting her departure from Hololive and asking questions about the decision, with some putting the blame on Cover Corp.

Kiryu Coco will hold her final stream on July 1st, 2021.

If hololive ends up getting permission to play chinese published games only a few feeks after she's out then cover is going to earn itself even more hate than now.

I have a small excel file where i would track sub counts daily up until the 1 million mark since I am idle on a phone call every day for around 15 minutes, today the tracking left a sour taste, for the first time in 6 months i saw a negative number in subs across several channels.

The fact that she was not just thrown to the winds, but was actively ostracized by the people taht were there to support her… wow. Go support her other channel.

The one silver lining to this is that her other channel still exists, and a lot of people have already been migrating over to it. She just can't share it on stream for contractual reasons.

What's her other channel, if I may? Apologies if this is something stupidly obvious I've missed.

I never watched Coco, she didn't seem like my cup of tea, but it's impossible to ignore the influence she had on the community and in taking part with the creation of HololiveEN, which I watch regularly now. I'm pretty depressed by this. :<

Seriously. I wasn't an active viewer either but by all accounts and impressions she's a super nice, super friendly person and a real joy to collaborate with. This still kinda hit me harder than I'd have expected. Even if I wasn't directly watching her streams, I enjoyed clips and just her general presence popping up here and there.
