Roughly 27 years removed from its humble origin as an animation project, the Killer Bean franchise has made its way from cult internet series to Reddit meme and now to video game.

On Saturday, the Twitter account for Killer Bean Studios, the company created by Killer Bean creator Jeff Lew, tweeted a trailer for a Killer Bean video game.

True to the Killer Bean series' tradition of sending up action-genre staples, the Killer Bean video game looks like it's taking its cues from some of gaming's iconic action titles, like Grand Theft Auto, Max Payne and Just Cause.

According to the description, the game will be an open-world, hybrid first and third-person roguelike shooter with a procedurally generated campaign. The game's Steam page promises it's "coming soon."

While it may seem like a natural progression that the surprisingly long-running Killer Bean project has led to a video game adaptation, perhaps more surprising is that people think the game looks really good. The trailer recently went viral on Twitter, as users lauded it with praise and hype.

The game has some pretty big shoes to fill, but if Jeff Lew pulls it off, the internet may be in for a Killer Bean renaissance.
