Yesterday on Drew Barrymore's daytime television talk show The Drew Barrymore Show, she asked Vice President Kamala Harris to be the "momala" of the United States, leading Harris to purse her lips in a gesture that many online interpreted as a cringe.

The moment has since turned into a viral meme, the latest in a series depicting Harris as a wise, delightfully kooky or relatable figure following the virality of the "Fell Out Of A Coconut Tree" meme earlier this year.

In the course of the interview, Barrymore approaches Harris and sits very near to her, telling her, "We really all need a tremendous hug in the world right now … we need you to be 'Momala' of the country." Harris laughs and says, "Mmm, yeah, I mean, yeah," while Barrymore clutches her hands.

As the awkward clip spread on social media, many posters online made fun of Drew Barrymore for her interviewing style. Others found Kamala's reaction relatable, liking her apparent honesty and reasonableness.

"Momala" is on the record as a nickname that the Vice President's stepchildren, including her daughter Ella Emhoff call her.

This latest Harris meme comes as the 2024 election kicks into high gear, with the Vice President sure to be a regular presence on the campaign trail.

Whether the Harris team might embrace its memes the way the Biden team embraced Dark Brandon remains to be seen.

Geigh Science

"Momala" would not work and they'd be really foolish to lean into it as a meme. The condescending and stilted way she talks is already a bit too close to some sort of weirdo, shitty femdom routine and it always puts me off of listening to her.

Nothing quite like hearing something you would otherwise enjoy, but done poorly and in completely the wrong context. Jibbly jibbly.
