Joe Biden ignited controversy yesterday when he said "10-15% of Americans are not very good people."

Biden was speaking to black supporters in an online forum moderated by actor Don Cheadle. While discussing race relations in America in the wake of the George Floyd Protests, Biden called Donald Trump a divisive leader who brings out the worst in people. He also remarked that the vast majority of Americans are decent and want to make the country a better place, but added that "there are probably anywhere from 10 to 15% of the people out there that are just not very good people."

For many, the remarks were reminiscent of Hillary Clinton saying that half of Trump's supporters were a "basket of deplorables" during the 2016 Presidential election. On Twitter, the remarks divided users between those who agreed with Biden's statement and those who criticized the message as divisive.

It's funny that Joe thinks he isn't part of that 10-15%, along with most of the American political class.

Literally how is this controversial at all? If you think this is too much, you must have lived a VERY sheltered life or live in denial.

Do people really have such a problem accepting this? "Not good people" Doesn't mean outright criminals, it means racists, sexists, bullies, hardliners etc. just people without any scruples. That look for any excuse why horrible act X was totally justified and the victim deserved it.

From moms that don't let their children have a proper childhood because every single second of their lives (including adult life) has already been set in stone by their moms, to men sexually harassing women wherever they can, to bullies that just get a kick off making the lives of others miserable, to managers and bosses that fire any employee for just criticizing them, etc.

And those are just "assholes due to mental issues" and not just "asshole just cuz".

And there I would say that maybe up to 30% of people (no I don't mean Republicans, just all people in general) have probably a very weak moral fiber and ends just justify the means.

Or are you someone whose entire image of morality is so binary, that you are either "a good person" or "literally Hitler", so unless you are an absolute monster everyone is "good"?

Oops had to delete mental health because word count, but yeah, just by mental health issues that turn people into outright assholes, you have at least 8% of the population being bad people just from that (1% psycopaths, 6.2% sociopaths, 1% narcissists)

But as so many things, even that is a gradient, especially among narcissism. The 1% are where it's SO bad they are pretty much incapable of living an even remotely normal life because of it.

Oh yeah this isn't a big deal at all. But considering how bad of a taste was left by the deplorables speech, it isn't a good idea to call those you need to vote for you bad, even if had just worded it as just people but he specified Americans, he may as well as pointed the finger at us. And again, it's not that it was a big deal, it is that he basically hurt his campaign in a way that was so obviously avoidable.

For the love of god, Joe, please just keep your mouth closed and your eyes forward and you can be president. Your mouth is full of murder bees.

I know it sounds easy to say just shut up. But that would be like if you told a boxer to not punch. He eventually has to go up and debate Trump anyways, it's inevitable. He is just not a good candidate.

This guy was a non-stop gaffe machine long before the dementia kicked in.

The folks who disagree with him legitimately think that >85% of Americans are very good people?

3

VeteranAdventureHobo

Id say 2.5 to 5 percent at most are "bad people" and the rest of the people who commit crimes are a result of their upbringing.

1

Panuru

That doesn't answer the question, really. Are more than 85% of Americans "very good" people?

Chaotic-Entropy

At what point do you draw the line between a "bad person" and a person who willingly ignores and facilitates "bad people".
