Jack Dorsey, the founder of Twitter and the face of the company for 15 years, has announced his resignation from the site, effective today. Chief Technology Officer Parag Agrawal will take over as CEO.

Dorsey naturally announced the sudden resignation on his Twitter account, sharing a screenshot of an email he sent to the company with the news.

"I want you all to know this was my decision and I own it," he wrote. "It was a tough one for me, of course. I love this service and company… There aren't many companies that get to this level. And there aren't many founders that choose their company over their own ego."

"I want to thank the Board for their confidence in my leadership and Jack for his continued mentorship, support, and partnership," Agrawal said. "I look forward to building on everything we have accomplished under Jack’s leadership and I am incredibly energized by the opportunities ahead. By continuing to improve our execution, we will deliver tremendous value for our customers and shareholders as we reshape the future of public conversation."

Twitter stock rose after the news was released before trading Twitter stock was halted. Online, Twitter users took the opportunity to fire off some hasty jokes about Jack getting off Twitter.

Dorsey will remain working on Twitter until the next board meeting in 2022, at which time he will leave Twitter completely.

I get the feeling either Dorsey knows something we don't, or he was… persuaded by other benefactors.

Breaking News: Dorsey found committed suicide by single gunshot wound, just hours before his one-way trip to Singapore.

Goddammnit. Now I can't I use the expression "people that feed on Dorsey's Shitter" on anti-twitter discourse. Sad to see twitter role in modern political polarization unaccounted for. Specially when MSM is spinning the "CAPITOL RIOT WAS ENTEIRLY PLANNED IN FACEBOOK AND NOWHERE ELSE" bs narrative

I'm surprised he didn't sell his position as an NFT.

It's not about to get better. It's gonna get worse.

Which may actually be a good thing. The sooner Twitter dies, the sooner we can achieve world peace.

"…bound by the First Amendment…"

Bruh, the First Amendment specifically unbinds speech. No, what you want is to be is continuing to be the Dems go-to subcontractor for subverting the 1st.

Twitter when it is being used to organize revolutions in the Arab spring: "We're the free speech wing of the free speech party"

Twitter after orange man gets elected then unelected and his idiot mob break into the the Capitol to take selfies in fursuits "we're focusing less on thinking about free speech, but thinking about how the times have changed."

Did your owners get a little nervous about pot stirring not going your way a little close to home, Twitter?

"And there aren't many founders that choose their company over their own ego."

Nice humblebrag, Dorsey.

I'm sure many of us have some bad memories of that six-year span of turmoil. Countless lives have been ruined by the mob mentality which twitter became notorious for, and the US political climate escalated in toxicity.
