Last night's Game Awards, like so many Game Awards before it, wore on viewers' patience with its lengthy run-time, a boatload of trailers, and comparative lack of announced awards.

Still, when all was said and done, Hazelight Studios' co-op action-adventure game It Takes Two took home Game Of The Year, perhaps an upset for a game that stood against AAA contenders Deathloop, Metroid Dread and Resident Evil Village.

Other notable winners include Dream for Content Creator of the Year, Returnal for Best Action Game, Metroid Dread for Best Action/Adventure Game (which is somehow a different category, much to our confusion), Tales Of Arise for best RPG, Elden Ring for Most Anticipated Game and Maggie Robertson won Best Performance for her turn as Lady Dimitrescu. You can see the full list of winners here.

Still, Game Awards veterans know that the show tends to be more of a trailer-fest, and there were certainly many notable trailers at the event. Trailers for the second Sonic movie and a Sonic open-world game got fans excited, while Among Us VR, Cuphead DLC, and a new game from the original team behind Silent Hill called Slitterhead made headlines.

For many, however, the most notable thing about The Game Awards was what it didn't show: namely, trailers for Breath Of The Wild 2, Metroid Prime 4 and Hollow Knight: Silksong.

Overall, the Awards appeared to leave viewers feeling simultaneously exhausted and underwhelmed after the long night of trailers with a comparative lack of exciting news.

See you next year.

Well, against all my expectations, neither Dread or Village won GOTY, I'm genuely surprised.
Still, at least Dread won best action game and Maggie Robertson definetly was the best choice for best performance.
I'm glad that at least in those categories, my expectations were met.

It Takes Two is a bizarre choice for a video game this year. It's not bad in story, gameplay, or aesthetics but it's not exceptional in any of those categories. I felt like all the other nominees had something to offer over it.

Dread is like a lost game from the golden age the way I hear it. Like how BotW looked at open world games and said "I'm still king", except with Metroidvanias
