(Mario Strikers: Battle League / Nintendo)

As Nintendo preps Mario Strikers: Battle League, yet another competitive sports simulator with a wide variety of their original characters, it seems it was another character's turn to be sacrificed on the chopping block: Princess Daisy.

The above series of tweets from Nintendo Europe shows the base cast for the upcoming reboot of Mario Strikers, and Daisy, who appeared in the 2005 original, is conspicuously absent. Instead, Rosalina of the Super Mario Galaxy series appears to fill the "Princess who isn't Peach" role.

Daisy's absence angered many Nintendo fans, who came out en masse on social media to let Nintendo know that Daisy was the true Nintendo princess of their hearts.

At the moment, it's unclear why Daisy isn't included in the base roster for Strikers: Battle League. It's possible that she will eventually make it into the game and simply hasn't been announced yet, or she could be released as part of the DLC rollout of new playable characters, as Nintendo has done with recent sports titles Mario Tennis Aces and Mario Golf: Super Rush. It's also possible Nintendo could have simply given up trying to differentiate Daisy from Peach, as the pair are often given similar stats in these titles, or in the case of Super Smash Brothers Ultimate, the exact same moveset.

Whatever the case may be, the lack of Daisy has Nintendo fans up in arms about a missing character yet again.

This title will be DOA until she's added, then it will be at least playable.

I'm still hoping and confident she'll be in the roster at some point.

I'm pretty sure that if she's not in the base roster she'll be added in as free DLC. It's been Nintendo's strategy for all their sports games this gen, where they all get free updates post-launch that add new modes, characters, and other content. Most important thing to note is again they're all FREE updates, surprisingly Nintendo hasn't charged for updates to one of their non-Mario Kart sports games since Mario Golf: World Tour on 3DS which had a season pass.

I'd personally say that Nintendo as of late can't make a good roster in a Mario spin-off to save their lives, Mario Kart Tour being the exception (And that's a mobile game). I mean look at Mario Kart 8's roster and compare it Wii's roster.

I'm still calm: Realizing that… she didn't appear in the main Mario series – but she did appear in the first Mario game on GameBoy in 1989

I'm still calm: Realizing that…Almost every minor character in the Mario universe has their own game – even Princess Peach has her own game, though she gets kidnaped all the time, and with the characteristics and disposition of Princess Daisy, it was possible to make a cool action, also in platformer genre

I'm still calm: Realizing that…Super Mario Odyssey could have Sarasaland places – but even after the release and even in the final version there were no references to even the characters (I saw the concept art)

I'm still calm: Realizing that…Of course, Princess Daisy in Super Mario Run – but mobile games from Nintendo do not live more than 6-7 years, they are no longer supported after they are removed from the store

Now im realy sad: Realizing that…That the only genres in which Princess Daisy appears are Mario sports sims, Mario Party and Mario Karts – she is not even there now ..
