Yesterday's PlayStation showcase had several high-profile announcements that seemed to delight much of the internet, but it'd be difficult to argue that the biggest hype-generating surprise was a remake of Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater — one of Konami's most beloved action games.

Dubbed Metal Gear Solid Δ: Snake Eater, the remake will feature the original voice actors, including David Hayter as Snake. Also, the first three Metal Gear Solid games, including the original Snake Eater, will release in online stores in the fall of 2023 as part of a collection dubbed Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 1.

Judging from the reactions on social media, a Metal Gear Solid 3 remake was not on many viewers' bingo cards for yesterday's showcase, but it appears to have been extremely well-received so far.

MGS 3 serves as a prequel of sorts to the Metal Gear Solid series, taking place decades before the events of Metal Gear Solid and featuring younger versions of recurring characters, including Revolver Ocelot and Eva.

Released in 2004, the game is widely regarded among the series' best, as its memorable plot, setting and gameplay have helped it stand out from some of the series' other titles.

It is also one of the most memed entries in the Metal Gear series. In addition to its incredible theme song, which still gets referenced in memes involving long ladder climbs to this day, it's also the inspiration for classics including Crab Battle and Snake's tactical advantage copypasta.

There's no release date yet for Metal Gear Solid Δ, but considering the warm reception other PlayStation 5 remakes like Demon's Souls and Resident Evil 4 have had, expectations will be high for a Snake Eater remake.

Castle Super Beast brought up in a recent episode that there is some concern over how many VAs would return because there's the question of "how many of them are still sore with Konami over how they treated Kojima?" I feel it's safe to say Hayter would return because the dude honestly has been pretty spiteful towards Kojima ever since he got replaced with Keifer Sutherland in MGSV, and I feel like he would legitimately turn down the chance to appear in a game like Death Stranding if offered simply because of said spite.

Two figures I know who have said they have little to no confidence in the remake are Skill Up and Geoff Keighly. For Keighly I'm not too surprised as the dude is a total Kojima stan so of course he would be like "if Kojima isn't involved then I'm not interested," but for Skill Up his reasoning is because Konami's previous internally made projects post-MGSV have been pretty bad, so unless Konami is getting some major assistance from an outside source he needs to play it before he can feel confident about it.

It also makes it easier for the new team without Kojima by virtue of being a remake. The hard work of general game design has already been done for them.

From what the dev team have stated so far in messages and going by the few in-game screenshots we got it sounds like it's going to be a remake in the same vein as Motive's Dead Space remake. True it sounds like almost no one involved with the original is working on the remake, but the devs are staying as true as possible to the vision of the original devs while still updating things like the technology behind the game.

And to be completely fair to devs who work on remakes, it's not like having the original creator involved guarantees success, as unfortunately there have been cases where a once prominent figure went on to create a "spiritual successor" and it turned out poorly (the three most infamous being Keiji Inafune with Mighty No. 9, Glen Schofield with The Callisto Protocol, and long before that you had John Romero with Daikatana; though of course I need to emphasize this is NOT the norm, as you do have successful situations like Koji Igarashi with Bloodstained as a successor to Castlevania and while I know not everyone might agree I do feel Yooka-Laylee from Playtonic, made up of former Rare devs, was a better "third Banjo-Kazooie" game than Nuts and Bolts was).

I can already see the MGS fandom gonna get polarize to many factions:

-Kojima stans who's gonna hate the Hayter cause he betray their god,

-Hayter fans who side with Hayter cause Kojimmy betrayed him first,

-Old MGS purist who's gonna despise anything MGS related that is not from Kojack

-Casual MGS enjoyers who are just want to be happy with a new MGS game that not sucks,

…We just can't live in a time where we don't start to hate each other over literaly everything can we?
