HBO Greenlights 'The Last Of Us' Television Series Adaptation

HBO has greenlit a The Last Of Us television series, confirming a rumor that one of video games' most cinematic stories would be coming to the small screen. Chernobyl creator Craig Mazin and game creator Neil Druckmann will serve as writers and executive producers, while Game of Thrones executive producer Carolyn Strauss, Naughty Dog’s Evan Wells and PlayStation Productions’ Asad Qizilbash and Carter Swan will also produce the series.

HBO first announced that Mazin and Druckmann had signed on to work on a television series adaptation of the game back in March, but little information has come out since COVID-19 hit the states. Today, the announcement was made official, and the series will go into production soon.

Joel and Ellie will naturally be the main characters of the television series, while Druckmann also confirmed in March that Riley, Tess, Marlene and Maria will factor into the story as well. It's likely Abby will also play a role in the series, judging from his March 8th tweet.

There's no news yet on the series' cast or how many episodes are in development, but the news nevertheless had people excited, particularly the confirmation of Mazin being on board.

So many names get thrown around for Joel in HBO’s The Last of Us. I’d be stoked for any of the big names that are always mentioned Names such as Hugh Jackman, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, Josh Brolin, Joel Edgerton, Karl Urban, and a few more

The news is another bit of good news for The Last Of Us; after suffering a difficult and heavily-memed launch of The Last Of Us Part II, earlier this year, the game now has a television adaptation and is on its way to the Game Awards with several nominations.
