(X / @Grimezsz)

Grimes, the Canadian pop star and mother of several of Elon Musk's children, shared a New Year's Eve post to X / Twitter about her pride in "white culture" that has since generated a prominent amount of controversy and discourse over the last two days.

In the post and follow-ups to it, Grimes framed her beliefs in terms of having pride in all humans, including white people, and understanding that both greatness and violence have been committed by people throughout human history.

In her replies, however, many found her understanding of the history of race to be inaccurate, and her division of humans into different "cultures" based on race to be questionable. The phrase "proud of white culture" also struck critics of the post as bad and bizarre.

Some fans told Grimes to delete the post (to no avail), while others like political commentator Ian Miles Cheong chimed in to argue for keeping it up.

Grimes, who is currently in a custody battle with her ex Elon Musk, was also accused by others during the discussion of following him into increasingly right-wing territory.

Some posters even went so far as to argue that Musk somehow "redpilled" Grimes.

On TikTok and elsewhere online as the contentious post spread, posters advocated for "isolating" Grimes and approaching her with more caution, since the remarks she raised were perceived by many as white supremacist talking points.

Others online wondered why she made the post in the first place and brought up the topic to begin with.

I'm not sure the Epic of Gilgamesh could be considered a novel, but I'm pretty sure it's the oldest known written work on the planet.

not even remotely closet to the oldest "written work"

which I assume means "oldest known example of sybmolic or ideographic language" or something like that

all of the oldest known "written works" are, functionally, receipts

contracts.

"I Boog the Noog to Herebey Swear to Trade 1 Human Female Child*, lightly used, for [10x] Goats of mixed gender, guaranteed free of Hoof Rot, with up to date Dental and medical records on file and certified no homo (will f*ck) to the Honorable ZORAGOG THE BEGROORGER, LORD OF THE CAVE A LITTLE OVER THERE AROUND THE WAY

Exchange of goods to be made by the time of 1st blinding orange thing o Clock in the morning, First melt +10days, or there abouts just yell"

*not redemable for loose handfuls of Bitter Vetch and insect larva, lighlty salivad honey comb, a chune to durge, or other cash value.

"The Mesh"'s "1st" Provenance is a title that incorporates a long list of evoloving astgerisks

1st
almost or fully intact
*complete made up nonsense (Fiction,Religion, or Fiction/Religion); not real or an explanatory guide/descriptive manual/
*independently and parallel exitence indicating widespread awareness and notoriety (Eg "first Marble Movie")
*discovery of earliest variant is also a "big chonker" that includes all, most, or even "the whole, ya know, thing"

Giligans Mesh cbobbles some random assortment of those, or similar asterisks, and THAT unholy notion is "the first"

tonedeaf comment but far from a "white supremacist talking point". did they actually read the tweet? it's three sentences in a single paragraph- I'm sure even the most tiktok addled brain can hold focus long enough to wade through that. Her point is that people from all different races have accomplished amazing things and that we should focus on our commonalities rather than our differences. Is the mention of pride in white culture something that people take issue with? Because there are white cultures and there are certainly things about those cultures to be proud of. What's the issue here?

No, there is no such thing as "white culture" there are French, Italian, Roman, Greek, British, Scottish, Celtic, Irish, Dutch, Norwegian, Finish, Swedish, German, Polish, Russian, Welsh… not white.

Who is considered part of the "white race" is a signifier of the white supremacist power structure that seeks to maintain the majority.

If you go back a thousand years none of the people listed above would agree they are all white. I mean Irish and Italians weren't considered white until the 60s when the "white race" was going to lose it's status as the majority population.

Typically people don't scream out, unprompted "I'm not a Nazi" unless they're trying desperately to get ahead of accusations about being a Nazi.

By that logic, there is also no such thing as "black culture" or "asian culture". And yet, people only mention this for white culture.
