Google is once again terrorizing sports viewers with commercials.

Two months after driving viewers crazy with HIT THAT POSE TAKE THAT FLICK CHECK YO ANGLE POST THAT PIC during the NBA Playoffs, Google is now drawing criticism for a commercial that many perceived as having a more insidious implication.

In the ad, a father is discussing his daughter's love for American Olympic hurdler Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone. The daughter wants to write McLaughlin-Levrone a fan letter. The Dad's solution is to turn to Google's AI assistant named "Gemini."

“Help my daughter write a letter telling Sydney how inspiring she is," he said to Gemini, "and be sure to mention that my daughter plans on breaking her world record one day. (She says sorry, not sorry.)”

The idea of having a child use artificial intelligence to compose a fan letter to her athletic idol rang particularly dire to AI's many critics, who also felt an athlete would not appreciate receiving a letter written by a computer vs. a human child.

The general opinion of AI apparently hasn't turned in its favor if the reaction to Google's Olympics ad is anything to go by. At the very least, the idea of forging fan mail with a computer doesn't seem to be a winner.

it isn't as bad as the grammarly ad that came out last year where a guy had to write a song for his daughter's school project and asked an AI to do it so he could go back to work
i think these guys need an editor or something whose sole purpose is to make sure they stop saying the quiet part out loud

Google: They'll love the convenience!

Ad: Since I can't be bothered with my daughter's dreams or ambitions to help her write to her idol, Google make up anything genuine.

I find it both funny and terrifying how out of touch with reality, and in this case, humanity, the people and corporations pushing Ai really are. It's almost as if they where unfeeling, uncaring, soulless Ais themselves

Nah, AIs would actually be much better at managing corpos. They are even worse than AIs
