Today is July 11th, which means it is "7/11" — and thus once again Free Slurpee Day at the convenience store chain of the same name. As with almost every previous year since the tradition began, social media users are celebrating the return of the free drink.

All around the web today, fans of the iconic beverage shared their enthusiasm for the long-awaited summer holiday and showed their commitment to the Slurpee with selfies documenting their haul.

Hashtags and search queries related to free Slurpee day dominated on Twitter, and for several hours, the Slurpee was the most-Googled thing in America.

Some posters, however, took the opportunity to show the more negative side of the Slurpee, highlighting its sugar content.

Unlike in past years, the free Slurpee in 2022 is only available for 7Rewards members and loyal customers. But, apparently, if you join the 7Rewards club, you can get a $1 Slurpee any day for the rest of the summer.

7-Eleven isn’t the only company doing a free giveaway that users are posting about either. Tomorrow, on the 12th of July, Subway will give away 1 million 6-inch sandwiches from a new menu the chain is unveiling.

Slurpee Day was canceled in 2020 due to the pandemic, but it has returned post-plague to bless all fans of sweet, cold beverages … as well as to bless the internet with memes.

I never knew 7/11 actually gave out free slurpees on July 11th. I just found out after it was over. And my birthday was a few days ago too. Of course I missed the important day, of course.
