A promotional teaser for the new Netflix series Sonic Prime was released today, revealing that the character Big the Cat and his companion Froggie will feature in the upcoming series.

The teaser was streamed as part of "Netflix Geek Week," a showcase promoting upcoming content from the streaming service that was announced two weeks ago. It shows Sonic the Hedgehog encountering Big the Cat and saying hello before zooming away.

Many Sonic fans were highly enthusiastic for Big the Cat, tweeting joyfully and rapturously of the grand feline's brief onscreen debut.

A number of posters identified Big the Cat as a probable Himbo, increasing the anticipation for his arrival on the small screen.

Some, however, were upset at what they viewed as an anti-climactic reveal. The much-hyped teaser wasn't enough for many fans who expected to see characters like Tails and Knuckles instead of Big the Cat.

Others disagreed, declaring that laying eyes upon Big the Cat was the exact opposite of a disappointment.

Netflix has yet to announce the exact release date of Sonic Prime, other than to say it will come out in 2022 in time for the 31st anniversary of the franchise.

Big the Cat is a fun character, it's his original appearance in Sonic Adventure was a slip. The terrible fishing gameplay is the obvious callout, but the voice direction Jon St. John was given for that game made the character come off as genuinely… feeble-minded. And I think that plays the biggest part on why he's seen as a meme today.

In the Japanese performance, as well as following English performances, he's still portrayed as a bit dumb, but with more of a focus on his Laid-Back personality.

His tiny mouth is weirding me out. Aren't his whiskers supposed to be something like a mustache?
