Famous Amos, 'The Black Man In An Orange Suit,' Has Become Famous And Feared On TikTok

TikTokers have been making content about a Black man in an orange suit who seemingly appears out of nowhere to dance to the song "I Bet U Won't" by Mouse and Level. However, the infamous dancer has a name, Famous Amos, and he's been making comedic content for quite some time on Instagram and Facebook.
After multiple videos from Famous Amos' 2018 Instagram, @famousamos_sofunny, resurfaced on TikTok this month, some members of Gen Z are now being exposed to his "I Bet You Won't Challenge" for the first time ever.
Two videos, in particular, have received the most attention, both featuring Amos in an all-orange suit. In the first one, he's pretending to be sick in a doctor's office, then he proceeds to parade around the office, disrupting other patients. In the other, he's laying down in a coffin on the back of a flatbed truck. The music starts playing and he emerges, doing his signature dance while the vehicle is still moving.
After the videos dropped in 2018, not much buzz circulated around them besides a couple of meme creator's who'd recaption them, cracking jokes about resurrection, etc. They became a staple of Black Twitter discourse and represented Memphis, Tennessee comedy as a whole: The city where Amos is from.
More recently though, TikTok has brought life back into Amos' videos. Starting at the beginning of March, many reposts of Amos' videos surfaced on the platform, including, most notably, the ones of him in the orange suit. TikTokers made their own recaptions with the videos and Amos' social media presence, as a whole, saw an uptick in followers and engagement.
Towards the end of March, Famous Amos had become such a saturated figure on TikTok that users started to reference him as the "man in the orange suit," exploiting the reference in multiple videos that cracked jokes about him appearing out of nowhere. TikTokers were stunned in these imagined scenarios how he could survive a car crash, be a boss in Elden Ring or even be born out of someone's wife, doing his dance across the delivery room.
The recent virality of Amos' content circled back to him this week when he was asked to perform his "I Bet U Won't" dance during a Memphis Grizzlies NBA game. All in all, everyone seems happy with Amos in the spotlight again. For someone who loves his community and has been doing stand-up and entertainment events consistently for eight years, many on the internet hope that Amos stays relevant.
