Once, long ago, Denny's made the internet chuckle by making funny little memes about eating at the breakfast chain. Nine years later, Duolingo has implied that Nickelodeon's infamous green slime is its semen.

Duolingo has played with doing crass sex jokes on social media before, once implying that its owl mascot had mated with the Scrub Daddy mascot to give birth to spongey little owls. However, nothing could prepare Twitter for the thought that Nickelodeon had sprayed Katy Perry with Duolingo's ejaculate at the 2010 Kids' Choice Awards .

True, Duolingo didn't actually say a crass word in their quote-tweet of the video, but the implication was all too obvious for anyone who's been on the internet once in their lives.

This made many social media users very, very tired. Corporate social media has long been a bane of the internet peruser's existence, as most brand attempts to jump into meme-speak have resulted in depressing, How do you do fellow kids?-esque interactions. While no one could accuse Duolingo's recent tweet of sanitizing a meme for corporate-friendly purposes, seeing a corporation make a very explicit sex joke left many feeling disgusted and depressed.

Though Duolingo's tweet didn't earn the company many new fans, it did remind many users to do their daily language lessons. Presumably, Duolingo users are figuring out how to say "gross" in the many different languages offered by the service.
