Doritos Debuts Ketchup And Mustard Flavors, Innovating Past The Need To Dip And Raising Eyebrows
This week, Doritos announced the debut of two new flavors: Summer barbecue-themed Ketchup and Spicy Mustard chips.
Both flavors are arriving in the United States for the first time ever. The new spicy mustard flavor is said to be inspired by Chinese mustard. The ketchup flavor of Doritos is reportedly one of the most popular flavors in Canada, and the announcement of an American version led to some neighborly bickering online.
On Tuesday, Doritos tried to tease the new flavors in a "cryptic" Who's That Pokémon? style social media post, but many users guessed almost immediately that it would be ketchup.
In the past, experimental new flavors by Doritos have sometimes been controversial, such as the company's attempt to sell lady-friendly chips in 2018. So far, the response to the Ketchup and Spicy Mustard chips seems mostly positive.
But not everybody was happy about the condiment-flavored corn-chip news. Some users seemed horrified or disgusted by the newest addition to the Doritos family.
Despite a bit of recoiling or confusion from some, others apparently couldn’t wait to eat the new flavors with a nice piping hot glizzy, which seems pretty much what the snack brand was going for with the idea.

If you're currently thinking ketchup or mustard chips sounds like your bag, you're in luck. According to the announcement, the two special flavors are available on Frito Lay’s online store, Snacks.com, for a limited time. It costs $5.59 for a big bag of either flavor.
