Experimental hip-hop group Death Grips walked off stage an hour earlier than planned during the tail end of their North America tour in Fayetteville, Arkansas after they found themselves being repeatedly hit with glow sticks while performing.

Many long-time fans are blaming a new generation of concert-goers for reports of bad etiquette being displayed during the band's tour, saying that behaviors like throwing water and glow sticks at performers go hand in hand with other "meme-motivated" concert practices.

Death Grips have always had a strong internet following, with many of their fans coalescing around 4chan's /mu/ and Reddit's /r/DeathGrips communities.

Death Grips memes have also played a significant role in the band's past and present-day popularity, with some early examples being album cover parodies of the band's 2012 project No Love Deep Web.

But the reported rise of anti-social behavior at Death Grips concerts has some fans wondering if the change has something to do with the group and its rise in "meme" fame.

X users @BreakingSadd and @PoorOldRoloTony made posts blaming the rise of trends like the "Family Guy Boring Ahh" and a joke about propeller hats for the rise in complaints about concerts.

The propeller hat meme arose from an interaction between Redditors /u/pudncup and /u/smilin_prophett in which the latter suggests that the appropriate Death Grips concert outfit is a propeller hat, some dungarees and large swirlie lolly. The image was reposted across the internet, gathering millions of likes across various reposts.

X user @quebecween bore some of the backlash against the aforementioned meme due to people conflating gimmicky concert jokes and genuine anti-social concert behavior, but various internet users rose to his defense as well.
